Ceramicist Andrew Tanner has been named as the British Councils 'UK Young Design Entrepreneur of the Year' 2009. The competition was open to designers aged between 25 and 35 working in product furniture exhibition or events design as well as in architecture. Tanner will work in collaboration with Turkish designers to promote craftbased manufacturing. Tanner and his fellow finalists visited Turkey last November on a paid for tour as part of the competition where they were encouraged to network and establish contacts with local designers and entrepreneurs.Full story available from Design Week.

Andrew Tanner celebrates ten years of award winning British design in 2009. His collections have become some of the most recognised ceramics to have emerged from the designermaker scene over the last decade and successfully combine traditional home grown manufacturing with contemporary home grown design.Tanners latest collections have been supported by The Arts Council England to celebrate Tanners approach to design whilst also offering an endorsement for his new journey which is titled 'Souvenirs Worth Giving'."Walking into a tourist information shop I found myself surrounded by merchandise made in China with little relevance to our heritage and recreational activities. Red doubledecker buses are being sold hundreds of miles away from where you would actually find a route master. Is this really all we have to shout about?" explains Andrew.The Souvenirs worth Giving Collection combines design led product with anecdotes of life in Britain. Drawing inspiration from the Great British love of Food Art and Design with the tableware collection titled 'The Art of Entertaining' through to timeless collections creating memories of historical and recreational values with the Enchanted Forest collection which plays homage to woodlands forests and trees.
